CCADT Deploys To 10 Wildfires in 2016
Since late June, the Central CA Animal Disaster Team has deployed to nine wildfires in our region - Erskine Fire (Kern County); Curry, Green, Goose, Mineral, Sunny fires (Fresno County); Serpa, Fork fires (Madera County), and Cedar Fire (Tulare County). Our volunteers have worked very hard in triple-digit weather, staying up late at night to intake animals, and showing compassion to people who have evacuated to the Red Cross shelter or just dropped of their pets for us to care for if staying with family or friends. A special THANK YOU to the following CCADT volunteers who have deployed to these fires to help those pet owners in need: Leslie Harris, Ardell Perkins, Susan Jackson, Sandy Bailey, Betty Wong, Christy Cronin, Dennis Holloway, Pat Noble, Courina Hughes, and Annette Omachi. ERSKINE FIRE - KERN COUNTY, CA -- CCADT DEPLOYS TO ASSIST WITH EMERGENCY ANIMAL SHELTERING IN KERN COUNTY, CA
The CCADT was requested by Kern County Animal Services (KCAS) to assist with people and their pets who evacuated due to the Erskine Fire. There were two emergency animal shelters that were activated by KCAS that were co-located by the Red Cross shelter - Kernville Elementary School and St. Jude's Catholic Church. The wildfire started on Thursday, June 23rd in the area of Lake Isabella. As of Thursday, June 28th, there as been two deaths, 45,388 acres has burned and over 200 structures have been destroyed. (inciweb.nwcg.gov) CCADT will continue to assist if available due to the upcoming July 4th weekend.

CCADT Deploys To The "Sky" and "Corrine" Fires in Oakhurst and North Fork, CA. On June 18th, two wildland fires broke out in eastern Madera County. CCADT was deployed to activate an emergency animal shelter at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church alongside the Red Cross shelter. The next day, the CCADT activated a second animal shelter at the Evangelical Free Church. Approximately 30 animals were sheltered during a four-day period. |
HEARTACHE HITS T OAKHURST, CA..AGAIN.
THE "COURTNEY FIRE" DESTROYS 30 HOMES AT BASS LAKE HEIGHTS. On September 14th, the CCADT was deployed back to Oakhurt to activate an emergency animal shelter at the Oakhurst Community Center where Red Cross had set up a shelter for evacuees. 42 small companion pets were taken in and cared for by the CCADT. On Thursday, Sept. 18th the CCADT recruited several pet-related vendors to participate in a Red Cross resource fair to aid the people whose homes were impacted or totally destroyed. SEPTEMBER 5, 2014 -- THE "BRIDGE FIRE" BURNS 300 ACRES IN MARIPOSA COUNTY. CCADT ACTIVATES EMERGENCY ANIMAL SHELTERING AT THE MARIPOSA FISH & GAME FACILITY
On September 5, 2014, less than a month after the Junction Fire, CCADT deployed to Mariposa County for the "Bridge Fire". The Red Cross shelter opened down the road at the New Life Community Church. Fortunately, we were able to shelter the small companion pets at the Fish & Game facility. |
JUNCTION FIRE UPDATE - August 21, 2014
OAKHURST RESIDENTS RETURN HOME. CCADT DEMOBILIZES EMERGENCY ANIMAL SHELTER The CCADT has demobilized the emergency animal shelter. 25 pets went home. We will now be assisting Red Cross with recovery efforts for the people who have lost their homes. The CCADT will provide pet supplies that were lost in the fire. The CCADT would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made donations to assist us in our emergency sheltering efforts. It is truly amazing and rewarding when people step up to the plate to help others! |
JULY 26, 2014 - CCADT RESPONDS TO THE "EL PORTAL" in Mariposa County
On The CCADT was deployed to open an emergency animal shelter at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp, CA where Red Cross had activated an evacuation shelter. The El Portal wildfire started on July 26th and was fully contained on August 4th. Two homes were destroyed. The cause is still under investigation. |

We would like to thank Catheys Valley Fire Station #23 for their help and support in sheltering small companion pets owned by people who had to evacuate.
